The first game of 2015 was broadcasting for the Ivy League Digital Network. FGCU knocked off Harvard, 68-58. I was really impressed with the Eagles as they are now 13-2. Of course the university is known for the run that the men's basketball team made a few years ago, but the women's team has been ultra successful for the last 5+ years.

Working as a color analyst is a different challenge for me because it is a completely different animal than working as play-by-play. You have to prepare and watch the game much differently. I definitely enjoy it and it is beneficial to see games from this vantage point. Every good broadcaster (in my opinion) should be able to work multiple on-air spots.

I'm back to work with a doubleheader of PA Announcing on Saturday. Northeastern women's hockey at 2pm, followed by Holy Cross men's hockey at 7pm.

It has been 676 days since I have updated this blog. That's much longer than CM Punk's historic 434-day reign as the WWE Champion. I decided to start it back up because 2014 was a successful year for my career, and I have a feeling 2015 will be more of the same, so I wanted to chronicle it. First, I'll attempt a not-so-brief recap of 2014:

The year started very promising as I was promoted from being a weekend/fill-in update anchor (Flash Boy) on WEEI. I moved up onto the Mut & Merloni Show which aired from 10am to 2pm weekdays on the radio station. Unfortunately my stay there was short-lived as the station decided to go in another direction and eliminate the update anchor position. My last day on the show was February 28th. I would pop up on WEEI a couple more times over the next few months, filling in as a host for some shows, but I effectively finished up my time with WEEI in May.

During the spring of 2014, I spent some time filling in as a co-host for Boston Herald Radio's Sports Town, which was a good experience. It let me get some more reps as sports talk show host even as my days at WEEI were winding down. A momentous occasion occurred in March as I made my play-by-play broadcasting debut on ESPN3. Due to Harvard's agreements with ESPN and locally with NESN, I had numerous opportunities to broadcast on ESPN3 and NESN in 2014.

Over the summer, I picked up some freelance work with SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio. Basically my job was to watch the game and then head into the clubhouse of the winning team to setup a live interview for the hosts back in the studio. The big thrill I had was being able to conduct an interview on my own with Torii Hunter of the Detroit Tigers.

Also in the summer, I spent my second season as the play-by-play voice for the Boston Breakers of the National Women's Soccer League. My work with the Breakers led me to two other opportunities. The first was working a game for the U.S. Soccer Federation in the U.S. Open Cup. The other, thanks to the recommendation of my Breakers broadcast partner Katherine Donnelly, was my debut with American Sports Network. Katherine and I called the CAA women's soccer championship game in November. The game aired across the country on stations like SportsNet New York, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and even as far away as San Diego.

In the fall and winter I've continued my play-by-play with Harvard University for the Ivy League Digital Network. I'm lucky enough to broadcast for extremely successful teams like Crimson football and basketball. As I alluded to earlier, I've been able to call Harvard football, basketball and hockey games that have aired live on NESN. I'm also in the midst of my fifth season as the play-by-play voice of UMass Lowell women's basketball. On top of all that, I continue to work as a Public Address Announcer at Northeastern, Tufts and Holy Cross. So, needless to stay, I've been staying busy in the 676 days since my last blog post.

According to my unofficial tally, I worked 205 games in the year 2014, which included 88 broadcasts. The bulk of the other 117 games were as a PA announcer. So, welcome back! My first game of 2015 is Friday night as I'll be the color commentator for Harvard women's basketball vs. Florida Gulf Coast on the Ivy League Network! Talk to you then!

Back on the play-by-play mic in Lowell, but today it's just a single game, as the women host the Queens College Knights of the East Coast Conference. River Hawks are 2-1 this season and are led by Bianca Simmons. She was close to a triple-double last Wednesday against Saint Michael's. 

Queens is 2-1 this year, but the Knights were 1-25 last season. I'm going to be on Simmons triple-double watch today. I know most people will be busy watching football, but at halftime of the 1 p.m. games you should tune me in for a little a while.

After six hours on WEEI this morning, I will be on the call with Adam Kaufman (@AdamMKaufman) for a pair of Brown Bears hockey games today. First, it's the women taking on the Tigers of the RIT, which sees the puck drop at 4pm. Then it'll be the men's team on the ice against Army at 7pm. For those that don't know, Adam and I are both from Sharon, Mass. He's Class of 2000, I am Class of 2004. He can be heard doing Hub Headlines on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and of course I'm on WEEI, so we are "enemies". Tonight, we must co-exist. Luckily, this isn't our first time working together. Adam also serves as a play-by-play announcer for Boston College men's hockey, and I served as his color commentator for a pair of games last year during the Eagles' run to the national championship.
